The evening
Jul. 16th, 2005 12:57 pmI have to say,
calloocallay and I can throw a damn fine dinner. Twelve smart, interesting, crazy (in a good way) people crammed around a big circular booth in the corner of the downstairs at Cafeteria was an excellent way to kick off the evening. It included
ali_wildgoose,
bowdlerized,
tromboneborges; we joined
uberlibra in the line at the store.
Though I should say, that wasn't how I had kicked off the night. Being that it was my final day as an advertising executive, the end of an eleven-year career, I'd had a margarita and a shot of tequila at lunch and two grapefruit vodka/champagne martinis after work before I got to Cafeteria and promptly downed a mojito. Yeah, I was pretty looped.
Right, so after our fun dinner we were off to the line. Last night at Books of Wonder was much more chaotic than I remember OotP being. More people, more crazy, and it was horrible hot and humid and no air in the store. Rather than pass out, I got my book and skedaddled. I had planned on going straight to bed and reading this morning; alcohol+the late hour+the oppressive humidity combined to make that very possible, and I passed out in my bed.
I woke up around 6:30, and I started to read.
