The volleyball scene in Top Gun is a lot shorter than I remembered it being, but it still delivers. I wonder if there is some kind of timeline for gratuitous male nudity in popular film or if there is some sort of paper in that. hm.

So I just wrote some slashy smut, and I don't know where to put it, not being an PP member, and I'm thinking, should I start a fic LJ? Are there really people just here for the fic even though I don't post all that often? I mean, I'm working on some sequels for Swingers but that can go on [livejournal.com profile] hp_het_kink and [livejournal.com profile] erotic_elves; I'm also doing a challenge for [livejournal.com profile] erotic_elves, and of course I'm working on the EWFS sequel. On the other hand, a friend whom I know won't vanish (and I know where she lives) has offered me some webspace to post my story at, and there is always skyhawke. (By the way, an R-rated version of the EWFS sequel will be at FA no matter what.) So:

Thanks again!

It is perhaps just me, but I really like when I can find all of an author's fic in one place. Although a fic-LJ would serve that purpose, I feel your own webspace would be better. This way, for ass length fics you can just be like, "Hey, I wrote this fic (http://www.asslengthfic.com), but it's too long to put in a post." I find the whole segregation of NC-17/non NC-17 fics to be somewhat annoying (not that I am like, blaming someone for it; I understand why it's like that) and dislike reading authors at other archives because often all of their fic is not there, which would be the case here.

In short, just my personal taste.

I say yes but without the 'who reads at archives?' part. :)) I think some people like to read on lj and some like to read on archives, so a fic lj can't hurt. I don't post at RS or Skyehawke anymore because... no one reviews. It sort of isn't worth it.

I don't think fic-LJs are pretentious, just pointless. Why? If you want to put your hand on all your work, just add those posts to your Memories (or use the new Tag thingies) so they'll be easy to find all at once. I prefer one LJ for one person unless there's a REALLY good reason to need to disassociate yourself from the other one, but that's just me.

Yeah, see, that's the thing. I'm with Rach that the whole, less than NC17 here, over R there, thing is really annoying, and I'll probably have my own page just so people can see things in one place and I don't have to have twenty-five links off this page. That said, people don't review at Skyehawke, like, at all, and so I'm not that enthused about it. They used to review at RS but they don't seem to at all anymore, either, and I feel like RS is great for one-shots and PWPs but no one goes there for anything more thoughtful. I got so much response for Swingers on my LJ and not so much any place else. (Also, and I know I should ask Morri about this, but all my old reviews? They have vanished and I have no idea what is up with that.)

That said, I don't feel like LJ is good at keeping stuff for people to find. I still get reviews for EWFS, but I really don't get "months later" reviews for anything on LJ. So I feel like, people find it when it's first posted and that's sort of it unless it gets rec'd by someone later. I mean, with all the CSI fic I'm reading, it's mostly at the big CSI archive, and the Gil/Nick pairing archive. Going backwards in LJs is really tiresome.

We should get that url.

I'm totally with you on that having my own webspace. I've found it easier to move around, and I can put the other random shit there and arrange as I please, so I think I'll do that in any case. LJs just don't have a long shelf life. On the other hand, LJ's get more reviews. I guess I have to decide if I want to put stuff here just to be a review whore and let's face it, I am totally a review whore. It's much easier to hit the thing and review away, than to send someone an email.

I just put my fic on my LJ, and then quietly put it on my site at the same time. I don't think anyone reads it off the site when I do that, but then it's all in one place, while I'm still getting LJ comments, because we all enjoy LJ reviews.

I also enjoy being able to go from chapter to chapter through little links on the page. Doing that on LJ is a pain in the arse; I know, I did it for Swingers. Not to mention that LJ, like any blog, works backwards. Not so great when you're new to a writer and want to just absorb all their shit.

This is true. I mean, you could link all your fic on the side, but that doesn't really come with the convenience of rating, pairing, summary, etc. I suppose it would, but it would make your LJ layout pretty lengthy.

I'm not very familiar with fic websites in this fandom (heck, the other day I was trying to remember what that HUGE HP fic website is...the one people are always referring to...has a very busy forum...possibly Heidi is a mod.... Oh yeah, Fiction Alley. Doh), so, I don't know how good they are for advertising fic/drawing readers.

But, r.e. LJ, I personally don't have a problem with people having fic LJs, particularly if they write R and up, because I understand the desire to keep a bit of a wall between personal info and incriminating info. :D It's at least a degree of separation. I'm just saying, I think do what you feel like doing. If you feel like having a fic LJ, get one. Readers will follow you there.

*babbles* Sorry. Turning off the verbosity now.

I didn't select anything in section one because my answer is "No, but post it here in your LJ and wherever else you may" as that's how I always remember you doing things in the past.

*points up* Agreed. I picked the "pretentious" but only because I like having things all in one place, as it were.
