What other subject is there, today?
Jul. 7th, 2005 08:53 amThanks to all you lovely London and environs types for checking in. The sitting and waiting and hoping and watching the news part is pretty ucky and it takes a good while for things to move from breaking news cloudiness to hard facts. Thank goodness when I heard the news I just had to roll out of bed and find LJ. I'm sending many good wishes and prayers that your loved ones check in full.
As usual, all I can think to do is give a few practical notes from my experience, though I'm sure it's nothing everyone hasn't already thought of. One thing that I found helpful for folks who were trying to find me, since our terrestrial phones were a bit off and on and the authorities had asked us to clear the mobile frequencies for official use, was to change my voice mail to say that I was okay in case people couldn't get through to me. And of course since everyone is walking home tonight, you may want to go find some trainers if your shoes are less than comfy.
US types, if you've had about enough of the US non-coverage, you can stream WNYC; they're playing the BBC World Service and occasional direct BBC radio on their AM station, which will switch to FM at 9am EDT. Might be easier to get that connection than one of the BBC sites. I may be biased, but NPR seems to be doing a pretty good job as well.
Bush, no one wants to hear your statement. Jeez.
