There's nothing that says Sunday Afternoon like a sleeping cat. Veda is loving her new bed, now positioned on top of the dishwasher so she can be the queen of all she surveys. It's lovely when the cat actually uses what you've bought for her, isn't it?
I've gone from several weekends of not doing much of anything to a rather busy one, and a few weeks of work turning my brain to mush incapable of making progress on my writing to feeling a bit more inspired. But instead of writing, I'm taking quizzes and talking to people, and really I think that's okay. Besides, the quiz results seem to be a comment on the weekend.
Friday night Ali and I grabbed Thai food and papaya margaritas (no, not at the same place) and talked about Important Things and Very Silly Things, and then I looked up at the TV in the bar and saw that Duke had just lost. My friend S is the only person I know who cares in any way about NCAA B-ball, and what she mostly wants is for Duke to lose, so of course I immediately texted her:
Clio: Duke! *evil laugh*
S: I know it's GREAT
And there ends my tiny amount of involvement in NCAA B-ball.
Saturday I headed up to Van Cortlandt Park for a Holi celebration that was loads of fun but alas also quite cold. Made an avocado salad--rightly distinguished by Val's bil from guacamole by the absence of spices--and saw Emily (damp but spirited), her friend C (managing to look distinguished though he spent most of the time wrapped in a grey blanket), Ali, and a bandanna'd Scott. Also finally met Val's sister, so now except for one niece and one nephew I will have met the entire clan. This is incredibly satisfying.
I fear this is also a comment on my posting style--I tend to only post some big philosophical blah blah once its pretty well thought out, and then people don't have much to say to me. On a more literal connection, last night I went out with some friends for dinner and wound up playing Texas Hold 'Em for the first time! Turns out that you really can pick up some tips from obsessively watching Celebrity Poker Challenge. I didn't win--and it was only a $10 buy-in--but I wasn't the first one out, and I managed to earn the respect of the boys at the table and an invite to a poker night! It was a lot of fun but I don't think I'm in any danger of becoming a gambling addict.
The Noble Eightfold Path is actually where the title of Eight Ways from Sunday comes from and you can map each of the eight main characters to one of those paths. Which reminds me that really, I should be writing this afternoon. On goes the Christmas music!

I am a Translucent Visor.I am something of a gambler, but generally a wise one - I only gamble if I expect to win. A negative aspect of this is that people tend to shy away from playing with me. What Sort of Hat Are You? |

![]() | You scored as Buddhism. Your beliefs most closely resemble those of Buddhism. Do more research on Buddhism and possibly consider becoming Buddhist, if you are not already. In Buddhism, there are Four Noble Truths: (1) Life is suffering. (2) All suffering is caused by ignorance of the nature of reality and the craving, attachment, and grasping that result from such ignorance. (3) Suffering can be ended by overcoming ignorance and attachment. (4) The path to the suppression of suffering is the Noble Eightfold Path, which consists of right views, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right-mindedness, and right contemplation. These eight are usually divided into three categories that base the Buddhist faith: morality, wisdom, and samadhi, or concentration. In Buddhism, there is no hierarchy, nor caste system; the Buddha taught that one's spiritual worth is not based on birth.

Date: 2005-03-27 09:49 pm (UTC)I am a lapsed Catholic myself and Islam came out rather high but I think that's because there are a lot of "are you a monotheist or not" questions, and they're not sure where to put people who don't seem to be Pagan but are a little hinky about Jesus.
I had no idea you'd read it! *is flattered* It came up after a lot of it was written and I was talking to Ely because I can never think of titles and she said the story reminded her of that.

Date: 2005-03-27 11:52 pm (UTC)I think you're right about the quiz -- it's always hard to sort out the muddled middle. Mostly I answered that I didn't know what I thought but that I wasn't willing to make it up, either, so I probably wasn't being fair to the little database or whatever.
Mod or rocker? Hmmmm. I think I had the pretentiousness of a mod and the fashion sense of a rocker. Which may add up to a "neither" rather than a both. :) What were you?

Date: 2005-03-28 12:39 am (UTC)No, everyone is all, what the hell is this quiz telling me? I think I'm in the minority in seeing something of myself in my result.
I find speed tiresome so I'd say I was more of a rocker, though of course not when that joke was made as I, well, wasn't quite yet. That said, I love early Who, and think boys look great in mod fashions. So I might have been a rocker chick who slept with mod boys.
