Cheese, glorious cheese

jlhIt actually started for me on Thursday evening, when I went to S's place for a dinner of quiche and salad and realized that all my proteins that day had been eggs, cheese, yogurt or nuts. Dinner with an old and close friend is always lovely, especially with S who just keeps amazing me.
Of course, I might have said the above because she asked me for the url to this LJ (and therefore will more than likely read this) because I'm a kissass like that.
Then, because we had several reasons to be happy, CC, Josh and I went to Artisanal last night for dinner. We wanted to go to Flute first to have some champers, but alas working late left no time.
We arrived a bit early for our table and, standing by the bar, agreed to start with some white Lillet. A table at the bar opened up so we sat down and ordered a cheese plate (with five cheeses instead of four because they gave us the wrong one at first). We were good and got a goat, a sheep and two cow (which became three) and all five were excellent. They came with all the accoutrement, like sliced apple and pear, grapes, quince and fig pastes, some pate, thinly sliced beef, prosciutto and salami, and excellent bread.
At our table we ordered two small cheese fondue--one stilton and sauterne and one special that came with beef and cornichon within. We also got some air cured beef, crudite, and apples for extra dipping with our bread, and two side salads split for the three of us. We drank a lovely red Zinfandel along with our dinner that had been suggested by a coworker of mine whose friend works at Artisinal.
By dessert we were far too full of cheese to even think of ordering the chocolate fondue, so we had some sorbet instead--kiwi, blood orange yogurt, and mascarpone. Then we waddled back to the subway, a nice walk on a fairly mild evening. Unfortunately the subway fucked me over by skipping my stop coming and going, so I should have just taken a cab. Grr.
In non-cheese news, I have learned that you people really like roast beef, turkey and chicken and really don't like Hasselhoff.
