Reasons to be cheerful, and a grouch
Feb. 5th, 2005 10:29 pmReason #1: Many of you may recall my rant about Keira Knightley and my declaration of love for Zoe Saldana. Well, hell, now she's in a silly comedy with Aston Kutcher as her man and Bernie Mac as her dad, and she has that film with Orlando Bloom coming out too. So here's to hoping for more Jack/Anamaria action in Pirates II.
Reason #2: I simply cannot wait for Bride & Prejudice. But what's got me excited right now is that I just saw Aishwarya Rai in an ad for L'Oreal hair color! I mean, please, this is mainstream beauty here. She's gorgeous but let's hear it for some more multiracial representation!
Reason #3: I've loved Sandra Oh since I saw Double Happiness (which really I should own, as it's one of those comfort-indies). She was fantabulous in Sideways, though she had the least showy part—not the lead, not the crazy friend, not the layered love interest, but the "other girl". And her race was 100% unimportant. She is also completely lovely.
Grouch: I don't think anyone in the US saw Vera Drake and it's really annoying, particularly as I'm finding Hilary Swank to be really, really tiresome. She's going to get another Oscar at the end of the month, and does she really, as an actor, deserve to be up there with the other two time winners?
Ooh, and Sideways just won best ensemble, and Valley of the Dolls is on the Fox Movie Channel so this evening is pretty good. Only, I haven't been cleaning . . .
