Gambling is his game
Feb. 5th, 2005 09:24 pmSee, I don't post for days and then I spam.
So I got my hair done yesterday, which I haven't done in years. My sister is a beautician and she cut my hair nearly all of my life (she's much older) and by the time I moved to New York my hair was long. It's so curly that I was able to let it just go; I think the last time it was cut was seven or eight years ago. That time the woman, who specialized in long hair which is why I went to her, declared in her thick mittel-europe accent that my hair was too curly to cut, so she put it on huge rollers (the size of a salsa jar) and stuck me under the hood dryer for 45 minutes. When she was done my hair was stick straight (I looked like Cher!) and went down to my ass. I had to stand up for her to cut it.
This time I went to the Aveda school where the instructor said to the student, "I could cut it curly, but you will lose your guide." So I got a traditional blow out for the very first time! She used one sort of brush when my hair was quite curly before moving to the round and paddle brushes as it got straighter. Then she gave me a trim—long layers, and she said I didn't even have bad split ends! After her instructor inspected her work—he was very thorough and only made one small correction—she went over all of it with the hot iron. Ah, the smell of my hair cooking took me back to my high school days when I ironed my own hair.
I don't really like it straight, though. With less hair my head looks even bigger. But I like it the second day when the curl starts asserting itself again and my hair is a bit wavy.
The other thing is, I jettisoned Maltese Falcon for a very enjoyable hour of Miami Vice which showed up on TVLand. (For those of you with good memories, it was the one where Phil Collins is a random con man. I had forgot that Kyra Sedgewick was in that episode.) I'm over the moon that Miami Vice is coming out on DVD next week! They've finally worked out all those music rights and we get to see this classic show again. Hurrah!
I'm watching the SAG awards right now and Morgan Freeman just sang the theme to Maverick. Also, Kate Winslet is gorgeous.
