Someone did a filk to American Pie about LJ. Someone else gave them a completely magnificent icon. I'm mostly hoping no one decides to get up and sing that because American Pie is really fucking long and the band of karaoke bars the world over.

So I spent the evening making chili and watching the Globes. I have a special love for the Globes because they are completely random and corrupt, have no host and no musical numbers, no technical awards, cram all the TV and movie people together and then let them drink like fish, and give a lifetime achievement award to someone unexpected.

The Style Channel had a very entertaining pre-show where rather than listening to Star Jones or whomever drool all over some movie star, we got to sit on a couch with Finola Hughes and a bunch of Hollywood stylists who had worked on people going to the Globes while THEY watched the red carpet. It was like being at a party.

Anyway, some impressions, in no particular order because for most of the telecast I was cooking:

  • Hurrah for Desperate Housewives! Hurrah Teri Hatcher and her total honesty! Hurrah for women over 40! So many of them looked so fabulous and real in their dresses.
  • Mariska Hargitay totally made me cry, and her win made me think of you SVU shippers out there. Also, she was gorgeous.
  • Ron Howard is a lot dorkier than I thought he was. He's just like, a total director dork. Very cute.
  • Is Lisa Marie trying to take the goth queen crown from Angelina?
  • Could Glenn Close be more annoying?
  • HBO is serving a "goldentini" at their party: Amaretto, bourbon and lime. I feel we need to drink these soon. Emily? Val?
  • I am working on a really big crush on Paul Giamatti. Must see Sideways.
  • Awww, Jamie Foxx.

And I love Everyday Food. Like, so much love.

Ditto on the Mariska Hargitay thing, I was happy she won.

Also, is that Paul in your icon? *didn't hear of Sideways until like two days ago*

No, it's Peter Sarsgaard. Misleading, I know. He was in Garden State, Kinsey and Shattered Glass.

Terri Hatcher was so adorable and refreshing, though I was very sad that Arrested Development did not win. :( *uses GOB icon in honor, anyway*

I am reminded by this that I need to add Star Jones to my hate list. *hates*

I don't have words for how much she irritates me. She irritated me on The View with her whole "I'm a big black educated woman and I'm beautiful" routine which always had an edge of desperation about it. Also, note that she married a gay man, which I think is more about getting married than falling in love and I think that's not only too bad, but also sort of settling, despite all of her big talk. And the way she glomps onto the celebs! At least Joan was real in her ridiculousness, you know?

Arrested Development DID get the Emmy, though . . .

Her husband is gay? Gee, I didn't get that from her horrible, self-congratulatory wedding website (http://www.starandal.com).

For me it was the "I could have been killed in the Tsunami, but God blesses us!" comments on the View that sent my loathing into sheer, unveiled hatred territory.

Oh no! I caught the beginning of the Globes and then missed the rest due to (uncommonly civil!) flatmate drama. But I missed Mariska Hargitay?? I've developed this weird obsession with SVU.

And Paul Giamatti... Sideways was a great film, but it greatly decreased my love for him. His character is like that guy at parties that everyone fobs off on someone else, and you get caught in the corner listening to him drunkenly ramble about how sad and pathetic his life is. Except normally this only lasts for 10, 15 minutes and then you find a reason to escape... I felt that way 90% of the time he was on screen. The other 10% he was fabulous, but I just wanted to take him aside and slap him out of it!

Well, Glenn Close had a nice dress on... that's all I can really say there.

It will be replayed on Bravo on I think Wednesday night. Check your local.

Well, I don't think that Harvey in American Splendour was all that much more of a "great catch". And he has hair on his back. But I really need to see that movie like, immediately. And I loved his goatee.

There is a whole SVU thing online it seems. I thought she looked amazing.

Ooh, I'll try to catch it Wednesday, as long as it doesn't interfere with Lost... man, when did I get so addicted to telly?

Yeah, the back hair thing is pretty evident in a hot tub scene in Sideways. I'm the only person I know who didn't just adore that film. I liked it, but I think all the hype led to expect a bit more.

Occasionally I see mention of the SVU fandom people... I don't know. I mean, I love the show and watch the reruns whenever they're on, but I don't think I could handle any SVU fanfic. I can't even really picture how that would work. Normally I read fic because I'm curious about alternative angles for things, or because I want to put myself into a story. I can't think of any other ways I'd like SVU to work out, and I don't particularly envy the characters their lives, thus = no fic for me.

I still say Glenn Close looks like Mrs. Doubtfire.

I'm not too fond of amaretto. It smells like Agatha Christie novel. But I'll keep you company and drink bourbon and lime. :)
