bhanesidhe called me out of the blue, as is her wont, and invited me to see Tristan and Isolde with her this evening, and I paid her back with a coffee at the movie theater, some 99¢ pizza and a drink at Bellevue, which seemed entirely appropriate. And good thing, as I had dinner plans with a friend who begged off until brunch.

I have nothing spoilery to say about the film. According to Val, it doesn't follow the book precisely and I can say it doesn't follow the opera precisely but I can't remember anything well enough to say how. I will say that this film was all about Tristan's tits. He spends a ton of time topless and objectified, and even when he is clothed he has some serious cleavage working. We learn to admire Isolde more for her brain than her physicality. It was very refreshing.

Then we braved the cold rain and headed to the Bellevue where a drunken man bought us two rounds of drinks because I gave him a $5 bill that he'd dropped under his chair. After that he proposed to Val, and his friend proposed to me, and then he touched my calf and Val got grouchy. But he was very funny and rather nice, and he provided a lot of entertainment over our drinks.
