Meme. Though I should be cleaning.
Oct. 18th, 2004 09:34 pmName a CD you own that no-one on your friends list owns:
I have a bunch of CDs by various bands that C has been in. Some of you might have one of The Takers CDs, as they are listed on allmusic and they are even an interest of 5 people on LJ (though one of them, I know, is a friend of the band as well). But I bet none of you have any of my three CDs by The Tulips.
Name a book you own that no-one on your friends list owns:
The four-book series of Grace Harlowe in high school, which are apparently out of print and relatively rare. They belonged to my mother when she was a girl, so they date from at least the late 30s, though they were written at the turn of the century.
Name a movie you own on DVD that no-one on your friends list owns:
I don't have that many DVDs or videos, so I'm not sure I have anything that rare, and I don't have anything very old except a Duran Duran video I'm sure Heidi or Jules has. Maybe Holiday Inn or The Lady Eve or The Awful Truth?
Name a place that you've visited that no-one on your friends list has visited:
My hometown in Maine. Not really a vacation destination.

Date: 2004-10-18 07:08 pm (UTC)(http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:11n20r3ac48b) which has the vids from the first two albums and they're all strung together with little interstitial bits. I bought it in 1983. So that might be the actual answer. I also have Dancing on the Valentine (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:osrx287u052a) which has all the videos from Seven and the Ragged Tiger. But I see that Sing Blue Silver has Wild Boys and New Religion, so maybe I should pick it up . . .
I can't imagine that no one has the three movies I mentioned but they were my best shot. After that it's like, Mary Tyler Moore or Starsky and Hutch or Lord Peter and I'm sure someone has those.

Date: 2004-10-18 07:32 pm (UTC)I have 2 out of three of the films, but I think the fact that I've never even seen The Lady Eve sort of nullifies my cred as a vintage movie buff. :( Woe!

Date: 2004-10-18 07:55 pm (UTC)I recommend you purchase Pursuits of Happiness (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=Ra52DIiCuN&isbn=067473906X&TXT=Y&itm=2), Contesting Tears (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=Ra52DIiCuN&isbn=0226098168&itm=16) and Disowning Knowledge (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=Ra52DIiCuN&isbn=0521529204&TXT=Y&itm=3). I took Cavell's class freshman year as my philosophy req, when he was working on Contesting Tears (we read it in galley form) and his theories on Hollywood and Shakespearean romance are amazing.
the last depends....

Date: 2004-10-19 10:45 am (UTC)I have NO Duran Duran videos. *weeps* I used to RENT(!! OMG RENT!) the original video every week from our local video store. I practically wore it out. But I never got a copy for myself. *sighs*
Maybe we could do a trade? A copy of the original compiliation for the CD of the 12" singles, whenever my FIL gets around to finishing it? (hopefully soon, he was supposed to have it done two weeks ago, but got sick.)

Re: the last depends....
Date: 2004-10-19 11:00 am (UTC)I grew up outside of Portland, in one of the inland suburbs along 302, and my parents live in western Maine now, near the NH border, further along 302.
Hm, maybe I also need a Maine icon.
