damn laptops

My computer died at the end of September, and then I had to quickly find a new apartment so funds for the computer had to be put to that, so the new computer won't be purchased until December, which is annoying. Two and a half months without a computer is not the easiest thing to deal with, as someone who does a lot of her socializing and nearly all of her work on the computer, and it's a little more dire now that my freelance assignment has ended, and with it my daytime access to the internet. The always-lovely [livejournal.com profile] emsariel lent me his laptop for most of October, but its own problems resurfaced after my move, so it has toddled off to the computer hospital, as has my old one for a check to make sure the situation is as dire as [livejournal.com profile] ziggy1278's remote diagnosis deemed it. I'm typing now on my roommate's laptop but for now, texting is a better way to find me.

Notes to self on posts to be made when I once again have access to my hard drive:
  1. It's the end of the year, and everyone is making music lists, and C suggested in August that I just make some of my own, and I think I will. One thing that's kept me from doing so is feeling that since I don't have access to all things, I can't really say, "this thing is best." But you know, that never stopped anyone else!
  2. This includes a list of videos you must check out on mtv.com. [livejournal.com profile] calloocallay asked for suggestions a while ago but I haven't really had the kind of access that made me feel comfortable cruising around the site reminding myself of all that crazy stuff from the 80s and 90s that are burned into my brain.

I expect to add to this list.

I'm sorry about your computer woes. Being without a computer is a pain.

R.e. your lists: I want to see those lists! I have a terrible time discovering music on my own, so I love seeing what other people like and discovering music that way. I remember a few bands you've mentioned liking in the past, but it would be great to see other bands and/or specific songs you like, too!

if I were to have a non-mac laptop you could borrow (probably running ubuntu), would you be interested? I need to rummage around what I've got and see what I could easily get running, but I'd be happy to do that.

What is ubuntu?

Your SO had offered the XO back in September but I had already taken Scott up on his offer. I would be more than happy to accept whatever! Thank you!

I have also made the executive decision that you + Jesse + me = reason for a 12lb turkey rather than just a breast. w00t!
