2008 VMAs

What a difference a year makes, eh Brit Brit? Also, is it really a step up for Pete Wentz to basically be like, a VJ?

Oh Russell Brand and your poor misguided attempts to break America. Well, I thought it was hilarious, and I wish I could send you a text to tell you so.

Other than Xtina, I didn't see any amazing performances. Paramore sounded like their record, and the Jonas Bros are annoying, and Pink's song was lame though the coat was cute, and Rhianna's song went on way too long though the dancing was good (choreographed by Wade Robson?), and I didn't even watch Lil Wayne or Kanye because please, but LL Cool J doing Going Back to Cali was pretty awesome. Hence, it took [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose and I 45 minutes to speed through the show.

And Russell Brand was great.

I didn't watch everything, but I agree about Pink's coat. I'm very sad about Christina's lipsynching as she never does that. Good song, though, and the Genie in a Bottle remix was awesome. Someone on ONTD said the performances should have all been like that - people remixing their most famous songs, which would have ruled, assuming they'd had a stronger mix of performers whose famous songs weren't all from 2007.

ITA re Xtina. I think she did it because she was dancing so much, and she really hasn't done that in a long time. She did do a tiny bit of extemporaneous live singing I think, toward the very end. I liked the remix too.

Re 2007, I was surprised how many performers were folks who'd been around since 1999 or earlier. I mean, there's been a lot of new bands in the last 4-5 years, but none of them were there. And why didn't Tokio Hotel perform?

Heh. I was just reading about how Miley Cyrus didn't crack a smile on ONTD. And the promise ring thing.

I didn't think she was that dour. She had a whole bit where she was like, playing RockBand backstage and Russell was all, come do your introduction! Unless they meant her reactions to his jokes. I got the sense no one was laughing, as when Jamie Foxx went out to present the first award he was all, "Wake up wake up!"

I thought Russell was hilarious as well, but you could tell the audience didn't quite know what to do with him.

They were SO not laughing. But I think they just didn't expect him to talk about the things he talked about.
