Ah, summer

I went to see Cassie and Ruby's new flat yesterday and we ate burritos at this place that was just totally perfect. The burritos themselves were mediocre (though the roasted corn was excellent) but the setting? The place had two rooms, one with air and one without, and the one without was dark and cool and open to the street in the front. Perfect people watching, and we could enjoy the warm weather without dying. They also had the local classic rock station on, and something about the summer always makes me want to listen to classic rock. I just felt like, this is summer.

Then we got pedicures, and my toes are now a deep shiny blue which looks excellent. And then Holly took Cassie away and Ruby and I got some ice cream and wandered about, and then we went to this sister teahouse to the one near their old flat to re-meetup with Cassie and Holly. OMG, it is HUGE and has more stuff and more couches and more room in general, and was fabulous. Someone was having a scavenger hunt that this place was a stop for, so every once in a while a bunch of people with a piece of paper would come in, mill around for a minute or so, then one of them would say, "Okay, guys, we have to keep going" and they would leave again. It was great to just hang around and write and read things other people were writing. Very nice day.

Today it is very hot and I am staying in my AC and replying to comments and reviewing some things that need to be reviewed and possibly doing some more writing. And admiring my blue toes.

Every post you make makes me wish you were in NYC. ♥

That really did sound like a positively perfect day. Don't you just love summer?

Actually, I really hate summer. I am very susceptible to heat stroke so I have to be careful, and the city empties out and everyone is gone for large chunks of it. I much prefer autumn and winter. So it was more like, oh, this isn't so bad after all.

Well yeah... I guess Fall and Winter in New York would be better, wouldn't they. *shrug* I still like summer, dude.

Most people do! I am a very strange cold-loving girl. I grew up in Maine so maybe that explains it.

I don't love summer, either, and I'm from South Florida. Summers down here aren't as bad as people would think, because there is an ocean breeze, but nevertheless, I'm still in love with winter. Heat just doesn't do it for me.

Besides, I like winter fashions better. :>

Nice to hear they found an acceptable flat!

I too feel a summery desire for classic rock. Santana, especially. I love this entry, it makes NYC sound so fun. Congratulations on the pedicure.

NYC is fun, except when it's not. I like Santana a lot. Also early Doobie Brothers.

Good heavens, I am filled with envy. Not only are your toenails blue, but you live in New York and have the luxury of eating burritos with Cassie and Ruby whenever your heart desires.

If someone were to ask me why I paint my toenails with glitter (and it just so happens I DO paint my toenails with glitter) I would tell them it's pretty. It's pretty, I'd say.

Are pedicures worth it? Please tell me they are. I want to have one baaad.

Cassie and Ruby, being Angelinos, are actually incredibly snobby about burritos. As they should be. And unfortunately most burritos in NYC are NCal Berkeley-style burritos--the ones with the beans and rice in the burrito, short and fat. So actually, eating burritos with them is a very rare event. However, this place is in the hood and doesn't suck.

Pedicures are completely worth it. They rub your feet and put lotion on everything and buff your callouses and give them a soak and every good thing and it costs like $20 and you feel totally pampered. Also, you get more colors to choose from, of course, so you can change every time you show up. They're excellent. But my advice: Always tell them to push back your cuticles and not to cut them. The cutting usually hurts as they can be sort of ruthless.
