jlh: (teen wolf: erica)
Author: Clio
Pairing: Teen Wolf: Lydia Martin/Erica Reyes
Warning: None
Notes: Written for Femslash February. Titles from "Lust to Love" by the Go-Go's. Set a week or so after Distractions and in the same timeline as the "baking and waiting" Sterek series. Thanks to verity and radioaches for the once-over!

Title: The Last Thing I Was Dreaming Of
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Lydia thinks maybe there's more to this thing with Erica than just sex, so she tries to make that happen. Whether she's successful is up for debate.
Length: 1900 words
Dreamwidth | Archive of Our Own

Title: Control of the Game
Rating: PG
Summary: Allison had been waiting for Lydia to say something about her whole Erica thing—though what she actually had to say was surprising, and would lead Allison to seek some advice, herself.
Length: 2000 words
Dreamwidth | Archive of Our Own

Title: The Fun Was in the Capture
Rating: PG
Summary: Once Allison lets Erica know what Lydia's been up to—you know, the whole trying to make a girlfriend out of your fuckbuddy thing—Erica decides to take matters into her own hands.
Length: 2300 words

jlh: from Inception (duos: Ariadne and Yusuf)
Author: Clio
Title: Sustenance, Merriment and Cheer
Pairing: Yusuf/Ariadne
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Ariadne is a designer who's hired by general manager Cobb to create new games for Saito's Las Vegas casino. She and Yusuf, the genius molecular gastronomist who oversees the casino's world-class restaurants, become fast friends and might be on their way to something more. But then billionaire philanthropist Robert Fischer swoops in and seemingly sweeps Ariadne off her feet. Is Ariadne actually underwhelmed by Robert's life of glamour, as Mal suspects? Can Arthur and Eames get Yusuf to declare himself to Ariadne through his food? And what does Danny Ocean's crew have to do with any of this?
Warning: (skip) No warnings apply.
Length: 18,000 words
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] inception_bang! Yusuf's menu descriptions based on those at Alinea in Chicago. Something of an Ocean's 11 crossover, but really more that some of the Ocean's gang make special appearances. It is Vegas, after all.
Thank you SO MUCH to [personal profile] earlofcardigans for the awesome beta and to everyone who cheered me along. And very, very much thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ginevrawp, who is not only an amazing artist but a fantastic collaborator whose enthusiasm made so much difference (and who is responsible for the Argentinian dish Yusuf cooks). Please do check out her art because it's amazing.

jlh: (teen wolf: derek and stiles)
Author: Clio
Title: The Mating Rituals of Alphas
Pairing: Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Sure, Derek was born an alpha but he's never been good at all that dominant behavior that's expected of him, and even though the adults around him tell him to be himself, he worries that he'll never claim an omega if he doesn't get it together. But his omega actually already claimed him, years ago.
Warning: (skip) Omegaverse. Mentions of past and future mpreg.

Length: 10,000 words
Notes: More omegaverse! If you want the world building, please see The Migratory Patterns of Omegas (Lydia/Erica) but basically mating season is in the spring of junior year of high school, and most alphas and omegas claim then. There isn't any actual mpreg in this story, but there are mentions of past mpreg (the sheriff and Derek's dad) and future mpreg (Laura's mate and Stiles).
Thank you SO MUCH to [personal profile] verity for her endless and untiring support and her lovely beta job, and for holding my hand through writing this particular trope. Also huge thanks to [personal profile] affectingly and [personal profile] radioaches for their enthusiasm and everyone who held my hand through the writing of this story.

jlh: (avengers: Pepper and Natasha)
Title: Loose and Tight in All the Right Places
Author: Clio
Pairing: Pepper/Natasha, Clint/Coulson, Tony/Steve. Also background Thor/Jane, Bruce/Darcy, secret Maria pairing.
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 15,100 words
Warning: (skip) No warnings necessary.
Summary: The Avengers, led by Tony Stark, have been kicking around the Williamsburg scene for a couple of years now. When bassist Pepper Potts finds them a new guitarist who completely changes their sound, they also get the attention of SHIELD Records' top A&R guy, Nick Fury.
But on the bill with The Avengers on their big night is Spies Become Soldiers, formed by Williamsburg vets Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton, who wanted to take their music in a new direction. They've only been playing together a few months, but they've already got a lot of buzz surrounding them, and the songs to back it up.
So Fury sends them both out on tour, an extended battle of the bands for the one remaining slot in a SHIELD showcase at the South By Southwest music festival in Austin. Which band will end up with the spotlight and record deal? Will they kill each other trying to get there, or be too distracted by romance to bother with fighting? Or is it really all about the music, man?

Three Avengers: Pepper/Natasha stories:
  • The Shoes Make the Woman, PG-13, 1600 words

I think I get shy about posting links to my stories here. I'm not sure why. It's not like everyone following this doesn't know I'm in fandom writing fanfic. Crossposting to fandom comms feels appropriate but crossposting here feels like weird self promotion. BUT! You guys said you wanted it, and I will attempt to make these as single posts from now on. It's not like I'm spamming you on the regular or anything.
jlh: Woodward and Bernstein in the Library of Congress from the film All the President's Men (duos: Woodstein in the library)
So! I'm really sorry, DW-types, that I haven't been as diligent this fall about letting you know about the fics I've been posting! Let's start at the end.

All Around You Now by [archiveofourown.org profile] clio_jlh
The Voice RPF written for Yuletide! My recipient requested Blake and Reba, something about his crush, and it ended up being about the love that's all around us, Reba's wise advice, and Blake fucking Miranda up against a wall. (Also at LJ and DW.)

three jim and bones stories )

Backchannels: Kirill(Bourne Supremacy)/Bo Barrett(Bottle Shock), 3800 words, NC-17
It should be weirder to be standing in the middle of West Berlin and watch a car appear out of nowhere with the man you've dreamt of since you were a boy behind the wheel. It should be weirder to travel back in time almost 30 years and wake up to see the angel who's been protecting you for decades. But what's actually weird is how completely not weird it feels. I finally wrote the sequel to EWFS! Hurrah!

The Trick Is to Keep Breathing: Pansy/Parvati, Harry/Hermione, Draco/Ginny, Ron/Padma, Seamus/Dean, 56,000 words, R
Three years on, the second war still casts a long shadow. When facing challenges like a compulsive addiction, a baffling mystery, a life changing event, an impending career shift, or simply moving in with your boyfriend, maybe the best strategy is to lean on your friends, put one foot in front of the other, and let the saving-the-world bit take care of itself.

I got femslash for Yuletide!!

Always There Whip It! Bliss/Pash, 1600 words. Perhaps the love Bliss Cavendar had been searching for had always been there for her all along …

Super great, super fun, super satisfying. I am well pleased. Go, read!

I've spent the past few days reading other Yuletide fics and will put up a rec post hopefully later this week.

In the meantime, I'm organizing my fics during my week off and I'm adding some freeform tags to my stuff on AO3. What tags have you found work for you? What tags are you using other than the ones you're prompted to use?

Here's some that I figure I'm going to be using:
tags cut for your reading pleasure )

I admit I'm nervous about the female/chromatic/LGBTQ character tags; I always feel like people are looking for something that's more specific than that, or using it to mean something other than what it literally means. I hate excusing myself with the letter-of-the-law excuse, but does just having a female character as a big part of a fic qualify for the tag? Can you only label gen fics as "friendship"?

The thing is, I write a lot of ensemble fics, especially for HP, so I hesitate at the term "main character"; I rarely write long fics about one or two characters. It's entirely possible that my hesitation on all of these "does it count" matters is predicated on the insistence of something being a "main character" or a "main plot" when I honestly feel that the HP stuff has 8-10 main characters, roughly equal in their POV scenes, and therefore lots of different ship types, etc. Hopefully I will not get angry comments!
jlh: Kirk and McCoy, in tshirts, kissing (KMc smooch)
Earlier this year I'd embarked on a project of writing a birthday drabble for each of my fellow [livejournal.com profile] jim_and_bones mods based on the Elton John album Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy. The fall got a little busy and there were some changes in personnel, but I had plans, man, and I follow through.

Hence, I have finished the project! A drabble for every mod, and for every song on the album including a b-side bonus track! I posted the final four drabbles this week for [livejournal.com profile] pixelmayhem (admittedly a bit late), [livejournal.com profile] blcwriter (though she's since left our Bridge Crew), [livejournal.com profile] norfolkdumpling (the newbie) and [livejournal.com profile] lindmere (even though she doesn't tell us when her bday actually is).

Below, links to the series as a whole. Enjoy!

Author: Clio
Title: April Is Over
Pairing: Janice Rand/Christine Chapel, with James Kirk/Leonard McCoy.
Rating: NC-17
Summary: An AU set among American expats in 1920s Paris. In Janice Rand’s experience, lesbians don't fall in love, so she puts her passion into her paintings and finds physical comforts where she can. Christine Chapel, a recently divorced socialite and accomplished hostess, hopes to recapture the magic of her first love without its problems. When their best friends become a couple, bringing them much together, the two are forced to confront their assumptions about romance, which leads them to a conclusion neither had anticipated.
Warning: None needed. A romance.
Length: 28,000 words
Notes: For the [community profile] startrekbigbang.
Title from the F. Scott Fitzgerald story "The Sensible Thing." Dick and Nicole Diver borrowed from Tender Is the Night, also by Fitzgerald. Today I posted the bridge fic between EWFS and the sequel:
Entr'Acte: Harry/Hermione, Draco/Ginny, Pansy/Parvati, Seamus/Dean, Ron/Padma, 7100 words, PG-13. They won the war as teenagers, and now they're moving on with their lives as adults, but they're no longer headed in the same direction.

Three recs:
  1. Yesterday my Pansy/Parvati story ended up on [livejournal.com profile] quibbler_report, which is for rare pairings, and one of the other fics was the completely adorable The Photo Album by [livejournal.com profile] mozarts_piano: Harry Potter finds a photo album in his son's apartment one day. (Teddy Lupin/James Sirius Potter, Harry Potter, PG)
  2. Thanks to certain people on my LJ and tumblr, I've been using the [livejournal.com profile] suitsmeme as bedtime reading and this is also completely adorable and very accessible even if you haven't seen much of the show: 'Til You Gave Out All Your Skin by [personal profile] mockturtletale. Hilarious.
  3. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to be adding [livejournal.com profile] emiliglia's AUBB fic The Greater Good to my delicious account very soon, but I haven't finished it yet. (That is, I read the end and then went back and I'm in part three, but you know, I read the ends of things.)

Anyone available in September to beta 20-25,000 words of Janice Rand/Christine Chapel 1920s Paris AU fic for STBB, please let me know.
jlh: Chibi of me in an apron with a cocktail glass and shaker. (LIZ!)
This is a mixture of fannish and real life things from the last 48 hours or so.

  • I'm helping to run a crossover challenge on [livejournal.com profile] jim_and_bones that we're calling Worlds Collide, so if you ever wanted to write some fic about any Chris Pine or Karl Urban character you should go check it out. I'm really excited about the response so far!
  • Damn it rained a lot Saturday night and Sunday. My cat is afraid of the rain so she hid for most of the day, poor thing.
  • I got lunch at Cosi today for reasons that aren't particularly interesting (I usually bring my lunch) and damn if they didn't leave out the chicken from my cobb salad. So I marched right back down there and got it, damn it, and he gave me extra. Just this weekend I'd been feeling like getting what's owed you and setting boundaries was seen as being entitled, so it's weird how some guy at Cosi made me feel a little better about that sort of thing.
  • Relatedly, I'm trying to get over my anxiety about crossposting. I've been poking at various Harry Potter comms for the crossposting of the sequel and various adjacent fics--so far I've racked up two h/h comms (one of which I was already a member of), two d/g comms, a rarepairs and a rarehet comm (hurrah for ron/padma). Of course there's also [livejournal.com profile] hp_girlslash and [livejournal.com profile] deamus; that goes without saying. (I also trawled around for new icons, yayness!)
  • Speaking of which, the Pansy/Parvati I posted the other day and crossposted at [livejournal.com profile] hp_girlslash got picked up by both [livejournal.com profile] quibbler_report and [livejournal.com profile] femslash_today which is pretty groovy. Reward for psyching myself up to crosspost!
  • They had a Ralph Bellamy fest on TCM Sunday and wow, Ralph Bellamy was the Ralph Bellamy in a lot of movies. In Headline Shooter he was even engaged to a newspaperwoman who leaves him for a more exciting newspaperman, though he wasn't played by Cary Grant.
  • My tummy is full of pasta made by [livejournal.com profile] hoshizora and sauce made by [personal profile] ali_wildgoose who were nice enough to ask me to stay for dinner when I came by to pick up my shades.
  • Fandom is bliss, but I'm feeling overloaded on the pop culture blogs. Any recs for things I can put on the reader that aren't about either culture or social justice activism or current politics/geopolitics/economics etc, I'd be much obliged.
jlh: Chibi of me in an apron with a cocktail glass and shaker. (DG puffs tension)
Hey I am not only doing this, but I posted new fic today--No One Needs to Know, listed below!

One of the reasons I like established relationship fics is that so often at the end of a first-time fic there's a kind of gloss over the real lives of the characters in favor of the romance of the moment. But I like seeing what happens when they come back to real life, and come out of their little romance bubble. So post-EWFS, I wrote some adjusting-to-relationship fics for all four of my major pairings. (Well, for Pansy/Parvati we're still preslash, but it ends up being a very important moment between the two of them.) These fics all take place in the early spring of sixth year, before Easter break.

I Wanna Hold Your Hand: Seamus Finnigan/Dean Thomas, PG, 2000 words. Best friend. Boy friend. Oddly, not the same thing at all.
Livejournal | Dreamwidth | FictionAlley | Archive of Our Own

thoughts )

Shut Your Eyes and Think of Somewhere: Draco Malfoy/Ginny Weasley, PG, 1300 words. Sure, their relationship is new, but Ginny still wonders why Draco is so fond of kissing her in the hallways of Hogwarts.
Livejournal | Dreamwidth | FictionAlley (TBD) | Archive of Our Own

thoughts )

Steady Rollin' Woman: Harry Potter/Hermione Granger, PG, 1900 words. Mandy can give Harry something that Hermione can't. Or can she? Seamus doesn't think so, and as always, he has an idea . . .
Livejournal | Dreamwidth | FictionAlley | Archive of Our Own

thoughts )

No One Needs to Know: Parvati Patil/Pansy Parkinson, PG, 1500 words. As their sixth year draws to a close, Pansy tries to leave Hogwarts without taking sides or even saying goodbye, but Draco and Parvati won't let her.

SO.

I am very nearly ready to start posting my sequel to EWFS and I'm trying to figure out how to do that. Not where, but how; the where will be the usual LJ/DW/AO3, plus FA and Fire and Ice, and crossposted to the deamus and the HH comms on LJ.*

The how, though. The sequel is about 56,000 words long in 10 chapters plus a 7000 word interstitial story that bridges EWFS and the sequel. I can't decide if I want to draw this thing out in parts, perhaps two chapters or so a week, or just give it to everyone in a lump. At the end it will be on AO3 in downloadable form, so there's that, but I can't decide if people like things in pieces or sort of hate them. And given that the fic is entirely completed now it could be posted all-at-once (you know, save the space restrictions).

Which of course means I'm making a poll! As some of you aren't into DW (sadface!) and/or making an open id, I'm putting the poll on both LJ and DW. (So yes, you can vote twice if you really want to, haha!) Oh, and I'm sneaking another question in there, too.

Thanks all!

*I am not posting to Portkey because I didn't find posting EWFS there last year to be a good experience, sadly. I got a lot of slash hate in my comments, even though I warned for slash, partially because I didn't warn specifically for the background Percy/Oliver and Sirius/Remus, and partly because people are jerks. It makes me sad because back in the Pumpkin Pie days, H/Hr was a very slash-friendly ship. I got very few anti-slash comments on my fic at FictionAlley, and this was back in 2002 when people warned for slash pretty regularly. I'm not going to take it down because whatever, but I'm not posting anything else there. If any of you H/Hr folks has another place to suggest, I'm all ears!
jlh: Chibi of me in an apron with a cocktail glass and shaker. (Xtina)
yeah, I wrote fic. The very first fic for the show at AO3, oddly enough.

Sounds Like a Party: Adam/Blake, Blake/Miranda, Miranda/Xtina, Xtina/Adam, with a special guest appearance by Cee-Lo Green, 2600 words NC-17. Miranda and Christina's first order of business once they meet is to get the boys to just do it already. And if they have to do a little making out in order to get that to happen? Sure, they'll take that hit.

Yeah, so I just posted 21 short fics. Again, apologies for the spam. Cross posting won't happen until tomorrow and that'll be in bunches so you won't get spammed again. (Anyway some of this stuff can't get crossposted; there aren't comms for it.)

I apologize in advance for the spam about to descend upon you, especially if you follow both the LJ and the DW fic journal. At least it's overnight, right? And this is the last bingo card, so the last time.
jlh: Kirk and McCoy, in tshirts, kissing (KMc smooch)
There are twelve mods at [livejournal.com profile] jim_and_bones including me. Six of them had their birthdays in the last eight weeks. Needless to say I got a little behind, but then I got some inspiration from the Elton John album Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy and off I went. (Four songs left plus bonus tracks so I'm ready for all future birthdays!)

Drabbles are in album order but otherwise unconnected and consolidated into one post on LJ/DW and a series on AO3.
