Actually, the Detroit analogy is a really good one to use if you're getting pestered about your consumption habits. It could even be argued that by *not* humoring the dying industry, you're doing them a favor by making it clear to them just where things are going and giving them the opportunity to change before it's too late. So DVD sales or whatever are their canary in the coal mine, and should be taken as a blessing in disguise giving them enough maneuvering room and time to get the hell out of the mine.
