I think that's fine—I certainly didn't mean to say, "and also first-time fics suck." I don't prefer them, but I don't have a lot to say about people who do, particularly given that they make up, oh, 90% of fic readers. The reason I talked about it was, if we say that all fic has to sell the ship, it's much easier for a first-time fic than an ER fic, and ER fic would barely be able to exist. I prefer ER fic, scarce as it is, and would be sad if it was made even more scarce by that burden of proof!
